Location
History
Nebukawa Station opened on 21 December 1922 as part of the JGR Atami Line extension from Odawara to Manazuru. On 1 September 1923 the Great Kantō earthquake triggered a landslide that swept the station building and platform, together with an arriving down train, into the sea, killing about 130 people; the station was rebuilt the following year. With the Tanna Tunnel opening in December 1934 the line was absorbed into the Tōkaidō Main Line. Freight ended in 1970 and parcels in 1972. The station passed to JR East at the 1987 privatisation and is today an unstaffed stop, its platforms at the foot of the cliff and its station building on top. Suica gates arrived in November 2001.
Notes
The platform swept into the sea by the 1923 landslide still lies on the seabed offshore and now functions as an artificial reef and recreational dive site.
