History

Natori Station opened on 11 October 1888 as Masuda Station on the Nippon Railway company's line through what is now Miyagi Prefecture. It was renamed Natori on 25 May 1963, the old name having come from Masuda town, which had by then been absorbed into the city of Natori. At the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways it passed jointly to JR East for passenger services and to JR Freight, which operated the freight terminal. Sendai Airport Transit's Sendai Airport Line opened on 18 March 2007 with Natori as its starting point, and all of its trains run through onto the Tōhoku Main Line to Sendai, the combined service being marketed as the Sendai Airport Access Line. The station is a joint-use facility of JR East and Sendai Airport Transit, staffed solely by JR East personnel.
