History

Japanese National Railways opened Nata Station on 1 August 1960 as an additional station on the existing track of the Kashii Line, reusing a name that had previously belonged to the neighbouring station on the line, which was renamed Gannosu in 1944. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Kyushu. On 14 March 2015 it joined the line's remotely-managed "Smart Support Station" scheme, retaining intercom assistance after being formally destaffed. The station, in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka, is unstaffed and has a single side platform serving one track; its timber station building, in the European style, houses a waiting area and automatic ticket vending machines, and a ramp leads from the ticket gates to the platform.

Notes

When Nata Station opened in 1960, the name it took had been vacant for sixteen years — the original Nata Station, the previous station on the line, had been renamed Gannosu under wartime nationalisation in 1944.
