History

Nanakuma Station opened on 3 February 2005 as part of the inaugural batch of stops on the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line in Jōnan-ku, Fukuoka. Implementation design ran from April 2000 to December 2000, with construction by a Shimizu–Fukuda–Morimoto joint venture between January 2003 and December 2004. The single-island-platform underground station sits beneath the Jōnan Gakuen-dōri road. It has been a contract-operated station since opening, with Nippon Express's Fukuoka branch handling station business under management from Hashimoto Station.

Notes

The station symbol is seven violet hexagonal wheels, taken from "Nanaguruma" ("seven wheels"), which is held to be one of the origins of the Nanakuma place name.
