History
Nanaehama Station opened on 21 June 1926 as a passenger stop on the Japanese Government Railways' Kamiiso Line, adding freight and parcel handling in 1933, and from November 1956 a private siding served the neighbouring North Japan Oil Hakodate refinery (later the Cosmo Oil Hakodate logistics base). The line was renamed the Esashi Line in 1936, and the station's wooden building was replaced in 1979 and then by an elevated overhead structure in 1986. Freight and parcel handling ended in 1984 and JR Hokkaido took the station over at the 1987 privatisation; on 26 March 2016 the Goryōkaku–Kikonai section transferred to the South Hokkaido Railway Company, leaving the station unattended on the renamed South Hokkaido Railway Line (Dōnan Isaribi Railway Line).
Notes
Bodies of victims from the 1954 Tōya Maru ferry disaster washed up on the shore just west of the station, where a memorial now stands.
