History

Nakofunakata Station opened on 10 August 1918. Parcel handling ended on 1 July 1971, and the station was unstaffed on 18 August of the same year. It became a JR East station at the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, and Suica became usable on 14 March 2009, bringing it within the Tokyo metropolitan area fare zone. The former track 1 (the platform for trains toward Chiba) was removed on 16 March 2019, reducing the station to a single through track, and it was again unstaffed all day from 1 April of that year. It is a station on the Uchibō Line located in Funakata, Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture. The station sits between the Nago district, a temple town built up around Nago-ji and other temples, and the Funakata district, a long-established fishing town.

Notes

The station name is pronounced "Nako," but the place name itself is pronounced "Nago."
