History

Nakanosakae Station opened on 1 April 1981 as a Japanese National Railways station on the Senseki Line. It was transferred to JR East at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. Automatic ticket gates entered service on 23 January 2003 and Suica acceptance followed on 26 October 2003. A south-side rotary was completed in 2007 and departure bells began operating on 1 February 2008. From 1 October 2012 the station shifted from a directly-staffed Tagajō-managed stop to a JR East Tohoku Sogo Service contract station. Lift access was completed in March 2015, and the Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office closed on 15 April 2022.

Notes

The section between this station and Aoba-dōri Station is designated as a substitute-transport route for when Senseki Line service is suspended, and this station is designated for substitute-ticket transfers with Arai Station on the Sendai Municipal Subway Tōzai Line.
