History

Nakanochō Station first opened on 28 December 1913 as a stop on the Chōshi Sightseeing Railway, a short-lived 5.9 km line between Chōshi and Inubō that closed in November 1917. The route was revived on 5 July 1923 as the Chōshi Railway, with Nakanochō reopened using the earlier company's facilities, and the station is now part of the Chōshi Electric Railway Line. The single side-platform-and-loop station sits 0.5 km from Chōshi, ringed by the Yamasa soy-sauce factory complex, with the line's maintenance depot and storage yard immediately adjacent. The station is staffed during all operating hours, and the company's head office shares the wooden station building.

Notes

A statue named "Bimbō ga Saru" — a pun meaning "poverty leaves" — was installed at the Kannon end of the platform on 4 August 2007 as one of the "Shiawase Sanzō" (three statues of happiness) put up in a tie-in with Hudson's Momotarō Dentetsu video-game series.
