History
The tram stop opened on the Nagasaki Electric Tramway Main Line in front of Nagasaki Station, the JR station from which it takes its name. It sits where the Main Line and the Sakura-machi branch line diverge, providing the tram connection to JR Nagasaki Station. The JR station was raised onto a viaduct under the Nagasaki Main Line continuous grade-separation project, its new elevated station opening on 28 March 2020, and the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen opened on 23 September 2022, when the Nagasaki – Hizen-Hama section of the conventional line was de-electrified. It is stop number 27 on the Main Line.
