History
Nagahara Station opened on 28 August 1927 as a station of the Ikegami Electric Railway, on what is now the Tokyu Ikegami Line (station number IK06) in Ota, Tokyo. Before opening, planners had intended to call it "Magome" after the surrounding village, but the provisional name "Nagahara," drawn from a local place-name in the former Ebara District, was formally adopted instead. To remove nearby level crossings, the line was lowered underground here in stages: construction began in December 1965, both platforms switched underground in June 1968, and the project finished in November 1973. Renovated again with wood-toned finishes in December 2021, the station today has 2 underground side platforms and is operated by Tokyu Railways.
Notes
The 1973 project that put Nagahara Station underground ran for 926 meters, cost roughly ¥1.15 billion, and eliminated 5 level crossings along the way.
