History

Myōkōji Station opened on 3 February 1924 on the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line; the name was taken from the nearby Zen temple Myōkōji (formally Myōkō Hōon Zenji). The station became unstaffed sometime before 1 November 1948, and the tracks were elevated on 21 February 1993. Even after elevation the station sits on consecutive 1,000-metre-radius curves between Kōnomiya and Meitetsu-Ichinomiya, and trains stop with their leading car aligned to the platform end regardless of formation length. Tranpass was introduced in spring 2003 along with a remote-monitoring control system, and manaca acceptance began on 11 February 2011.

Notes

Before the line was elevated, the up and down platforms were staggered as at Shimaujinaga Station, with a gap between the two platforms; as a legacy of this, the distance to walk between the north and south ticket gates remains long for six-car trains even today.
