History
Myōkenguchi Station opened on 3 November 1923 as "Myōken Station," the terminus of the Nose Electric Tramway's (present-day Nose Electric Railway) Myōken Line. It served as the approach to Mount Myōken, but as it was some distance from Nose Myōkendō temple, it was renamed "Nose-Myōkenguchi Station" on 1 April 1965 and then to its current name, "Myōkenguchi Station," on 1 July of the same year, in a move to compete with the rival bus stop "Myōkenguchi" run by Tanba Kōtsū and Hankyu Bus. The platform was extended in 1966 to accommodate three-car trains, and the station became part of Nose Electric Railway when the company changed its name on 1 October 1978. Departure melodies were introduced on 13 April 2017. The station is the northernmost in Osaka Prefecture, and was also the nearest station to Kurokawa Station on the Myōken-no-Mori Cable Line, which closed on 4 December 2023.
Notes
The station is the northernmost in Osaka Prefecture, and the place name "Myokenguchi" itself only came into general use after the fact, spread by the station's renaming, which was carried out to counter a rival bus company's stop name.
