History

Mutsu-Yanagita Station opened on 1 June 1953 as a Japanese National Railways station. It became a JR East station at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and the eki-net Q-ticket service began there on 1 October 2024. It is an at-grade station with a single side platform serving one track; because the platform sits slightly above ground level, a stairway leads down to ground level, with a waiting shelter beside it. It is an unstaffed station managed by the Hirosaki General Center (Goshogawara Station).
