History
Mutsu-Sawabe Station is a station on the Gonō Line that opened on 30 July 1936 as a Japanese National Railways station in Iwasaki Village, Nishi-Tsugaru District (now Fukaura Town). Freight and parcel handling ended on 1 October 1971, when the station was unstaffed, but until 31 March of the following year a single passenger-handling attendant was posted from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding Sundays and holidays. After passing to JR East at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, its simplified contract was also ended on 31 May 2009, leaving it fully unstaffed. On 1 April 2010 the managing station was changed from Fukaura Station to Goshogawara Station.
Notes
The station building is a capsule-type waiting shelter of the kind widely used in the final years of Japanese National Railways, of the same design as those at Higashi-Hachimori and Ōmagoshi stations on the Gonō Line and Naijōshi Station on the Ōu Main Line.
