History

Musashi-Takahagi Station opened on 22 July 1940 in the village of Takahagi, Iruma-gun, Saitama. Because Takahagi Station on the Jōban Line — in Takahagi, Ibaraki — had opened first, the station took the prefix Musashi, after the historical province. The points were converted to spring-loaded turnouts in February 1958, freight handling ended on 1 February 1961, and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. The station passed to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. Suica IC service became available on 18 November 2001. Work to give the station an overhead (bridge-type) station building began on 3 March 2004, and the new building entered service on 20 February 2005; ahead of that work, the VIP lounge in the old building was opened to the public in May 2002.

Notes

Before its 2005 rebuild, the station kept a small VIP lounge and air-raid shelter that had been used by Emperor Shōwa when he attended graduation ceremonies at the nearby former Imperial Army Aviation Academy.
