History
Musa Station opened on 13 March 1988 as a JR Hokkaido passenger halt purpose-built to serve a newly developed residential area in the eastern part of Kushiro. Initial operation included a dispatched ticket clerk, but that arrangement ended on 15 March 1994 when neighbouring Higashi-Kushiro was unstaffed, leaving Musa as a fully unstaffed stop managed from Kushiro. The station consists of a single side platform with a small lean-to shelter and no main building. It is served by the local trains on the Hanasaki Line section of the Nemuro Main Line and by the Nemuro-bound rapid "Nosappu".
Notes
The Ainu word "mosa" — interpreted by John Batchelor as referring to the nettle plant used to weave the traditional retarpe garment — is one of the leading proposed origins for the station name.
