History
Mozu Station opened on 18 July 1929 as Nintoku-Goryō-mae Stop on the Hanwa Electric Railway, and is the closest station to the Daisen Kofun (Nintoku Mausoleum), from which that original name was taken. It was renamed Mozu-Goryō-mae Stop in May 1938 and, when the line was taken into state ownership under the wartime buyout on 1 May 1944, was upgraded to a full station and given its present name. On 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West at JNR privatisation. Automatic ticket gates entered service on 2 June 1998, ICOCA on 1 November 2003, and the staffed Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket window closed on 5 February 2014 in favour of a Midori-no-Kembaiki Plus machine. Station numbering JR-R30 was introduced on 17 March 2018.
Notes
Mozu is the only JR station where the kanji station name (百舌鳥) is longer in character count than its phonetic kana reading (もず).
