History

Motosu Station opened on 20 March 1956 as Mino-Motosu Station when the Japanese National Railways' Tarumi Line opened between Ōgaki and Tanigumiguchi, with passenger and freight handling from day one. On 31 March 1971 freight was cut back to carload traffic to and from the private siding connecting at the station, and passenger operations became unstaffed the same day. On 6 October 1984 the line was converted to the third-sector Tarumi Railway, and the station was renamed Motosu on the same date. Freight trains stopped on 28 March 2006 and freight handling was formally dropped on 1 April 2006. The station sits 16.2 km from Ōgaki in Soinakajima, Motosu, Gifu Prefecture, has an island platform with two tracks, and houses Tarumi Railway's headquarters and the Motosu vehicle depot; it is the only intermediate Tarumi Line stop that is staffed.

Notes

Until 2006, Sumitomo Cement-owned tank cars (Taki 1900, Taki 7300, Taki 11500) carried cement from the Sumitomo Osaka Cement Gifu plant via a siding north of the station.
