History

Motomachi-Chūkagai Station opened on 1 February 2004 with the inauguration of the Yokohama Minatomirai Railway's underground Minatomirai Line, serving as the line's southern terminus 4.1 kilometres from Yokohama. The station, in Yamashita-chō, Naka-ku, has the official sub-name 'Yamashita-kōen' (Yamashita Park) and carries number MM06. It serves Yokohama Chinatown and the Motomachi shopping street and provides through services to and from the Tokyu Tōyoko Line, the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line, the Tōbu Tōjō Line and the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. Amerikayama Park, Japan's first 'stacked' urban park, opened above the station building on 7 August 2009, and platform-edge doors entered service on 28 March 2020.

Notes

Amerikayama Park, opened over the station roof in 2009, is the first 'stacked' urban park in Japan, built directly on top of an operating subway station.
