History
Morita Station opened on 20 September 1897 with the government railway's extension between Fukui and Komatsu. From 1909 it sat on the Hokuriku Main Line. The station was destroyed by the 1948 Fukui earthquake, with the building and down-platform waiting room collapsing and the Kuzuryū-gawa bridge between Fukui and Morita coming down; the present wooden building was reconstructed in April 1949. Freight handling ended in 1973, and the station became unstaffed under a simple commission arrangement on 1 July 2000. With the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension from Kanazawa to Tsuruga on 16 March 2024, the parallel JR West section was transferred to third-sector operator Hapi-Line Fukui, and Morita Station with it.
Notes
The current station building is a wooden structure rebuilt in April 1949 after the previous one was completely destroyed in the Fukui earthquake of 28 June 1948, and it stands on the same site the station has occupied since it opened.
