History
Momoyama-Minamiguchi Station opened as "Goryōmae Station" together with the opening of the Keihan Uji Line on 1 June 1913. Its main purpose was to carry visitors to the "First Anniversary Memorial Service for Emperor Meiji" scheduled at the Fushimi-Momoyama Mausoleum in July of that year; freight service also began in September 1914, with a loading and unloading facility built for the adjacent Nichibō (present-day Unitika) factory. It became a station of Keihanshin Express Railway through a company merger in October 1943, but was temporarily suspended on 15 September 1945 to prevent transport disruption, reopening on 15 February of the following year. It was renamed "Momoyama-Minamiguchi Station" on 25 November 1949, and became a station of Keihan Electric Railway again when the company separated in December of that year. The station building was rebuilt in 1981.
Notes
The area around the station is prone to frequent flooding, and postwar disasters such as Typhoon No. 13 in 1953 and the Second Muroto Typhoon in 1961 repeatedly flooded the tracks and suspended service.
