History

Momonokawa Station is a JR Kyushu Chikuhi Line station at Momonokawa, Matsuura-chō, Imari City, Saga Prefecture. It was established by Kitakyushu Railway as Matsuura Station on 1 March 1935. It was renamed to the current Momonokawa Station when the railway was nationalized on 1 October 1937. It became unstaffed on 22 March 1983, and was transferred to JR Kyushu at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987. In 2000 the aging wooden station building was demolished, and only a waiting shelter on the platform now remains. It is an unstaffed ground-level station with one side platform and one track; the former National Route 498 runs parallel to the Chikuhi Line around the station, with a small settlement along the road.
