Location

History

Mitsumatsu Station opened on 15 July 1961 as a new unstaffed passenger-only stop between Wakasa-Takahama and Aonogō on the JNR Obama Line. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. A new station building, named "La Porte Mitsumatsu" and equipped with barrier-free ramps, was completed on 10 March 2005, with a formal completion ceremony on 28 March 2005. Despite the rebuild the station has no ticket counter or vending machine and has remained unstaffed since opening, under the management of the Kanazawa branch office.

Notes

The station's name comes from three pine trees that once stood at the site. Mitsumatsu is a ground-level halt with a single side platform, lying on the left-hand side of the track for trains heading towards Tsuruga; all scheduled trains call there, though some special services pass through. The surrounding land is mostly farmland, while National Route 27, which runs a little to the north, is lined with company offices and factories.
