History
Minmaya Station opened on 21 October 1958 as the northern terminus of the Japanese National Railways Tsugaru Line, where its name was initially read Miumaya. Freight handling ended in 1984 and parcel service in 1985; JR East took over at the 1987 privatisation, and the present reading Minmaya was officially adopted on 16 March 1991. Centralised traffic control reached the section on 29 April 2019 and the station became unstaffed on 1 June 2019. Heavy rain on 3 August 2022 damaged track north of Kanita and services have been suspended ever since, replaced by buses; on 10 June 2025 JR East and local authorities agreed to formally abolish the station on 1 April 2027.
Notes
The entryway carries a painted excerpt from Osamu Dazai's novel Tsugaru depicting the area around the station.
