History
Minatogawa Station began operating on 28 November 1928. It initially served as the Kobe city terminal of Kobe Electric Railway (then Kobe Denki Tetsudo, now Kobe Dentetsu), but on 6 April 1968, ahead of the 7 April opening of the Kobe Rapid Transit Railway's North-South Line, it was relocated to its present site, and the terminal function moved to Shinkaichi Station. It was damaged and suspended by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of 17 January 1995, but resumed operation on 22 June. On 1 October 2010, operation of the Kobe Rapid Transit Railway's North-South Line was transferred to Kobe Electric Railway, and the station changed from a jointly used station to one operated solely by Kobe Electric Railway. It is an underground station with a concourse and ticket gates on basement level 1 and an island platform serving two tracks on basement level 2; at an elevation of 0 metres it is the lowest of the company's stations. It connects by passageway to Minatogawa-koen Station on the Kobe Municipal Subway Seishin-Yamate Line.
