History

Minamino Station opened on 15 May 1959 on the Rikuu West Line between Karikawa and Amarume in what is now Shōnai, Yamagata Prefecture, more than four decades after local towns first petitioned the Railway Board for a station in 1917. It passed to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of the Japanese National Railways. On 14 May 2022 the station suspended operation as a railway station for tunnel construction related to the Takaya Road project, with a replacement bus stop provided in the car park of the Amarume Fourth Community Hall, and rail service resumed on 16 January 2026. The station has a single side platform with only a small waiting shelter and is managed remotely from Shinjō Station.
