History
Minami-Yonezawa Station opened on 28 September 1926, at the same time as the opening of the Yonesaka Line section between Yonezawa and Imaizumi. It is located in Honchō, Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, and is the first station out from Yonezawa Station, the starting point of the Yonesaka Line. Freight handling ended on 20 December 1960, and parcel handling also ended on 20 March 1982, leaving it unstaffed. It passed to JR East in the National Railways' privatization and division on 1 April 1987, and the eki-net Q-ticket service began on 1 October 2024. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, managed by the Yonezawa General Center.
