History

Minami-Wakamatsu Station opened on 10 August 1995 on the Aizu Railway Aizu Line in the city of Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture. From the time the line was converted to the Aizu Railway, the station had been planned under the working name Ichinoseki Kōgyō Danchi (industrial-park) Station, in expectation of commuter traffic to a nearby industrial estate. Construction finally went ahead in 1995 once industrial-park lot sales firmed up and Fukushima was confirmed as host of the 50th National Sports Festival. The station has a single side platform with an effective length of 55 metres, connected to its unstaffed station building by a ramp. Daily ridership was reported at 14 in fiscal 2016.

Notes

From 2009 to 2013, a temporary station called Ichinoseki Rokujizōson Station — named simply Rokujizōson Station in 2009 — operated between this station and Monden Station, opening only on 23 and 24 August each year.
