History

Minami-Sakae Station opened in 1937 as Atsumi Electric Railway's "Rikugun-Byōin-mae" (in front of the Army Hospital) Station at Minami-Sakae-chō, Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture. It became a station on Nagoya Railroad's Atsumi Line through the merger of 1 September 1940, was renamed "Byōin-mae" (in front of the hospital) before 1946, and was renamed "Minami-Sakae" on 10 January 1947. It became a station of Toyohashi Railroad through the transfer of 1 October 1954, and carries station number 5. A new station building came into use on 23 March 2019, and staffed hours on weekends and holidays were reduced from 18 May 2024. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track.

Notes

Minami-Sakae Station opened as "Rikugun-Byōin-mae" Station and was renamed to its current name in 1947, after the war; it sees heavy commuting use by students of nearby Toyohashi Technical High School and Jishūkan High School.
