History
Minami-Rinkan Station opened on 1 April 1929 as Minami-Rinkantoshi Station, a stop on the Odakyū Enoshima Line in Yamato, Kanagawa Prefecture, named for its position in the southern part of the "Rinkan Toshi" (forest-city) planning area. It was renamed Minami-Rinkan on 15 October 1941, when the "toshi" suffix was stripped from neighbouring Chūō-Rinkan and Higashi-Rinkan as well. Semi-express services began stopping in October 1946, joined later by commuter-express trains in 1955 and standard express trains in November 1965. When ten-car express operation arrived, the original island platforms with passing loops were rebuilt as two side platforms, the redundant passing tracks repurposed for paid bicycle parking and elevator access. A departure-information display was installed on 26 July 2012.
Notes
Until the two passing tracks were lifted during the ten-car express conversion, the station had two island platforms serving four tracks: slower trains stood on the outer passing tracks (former platforms 1 and 4) while premium services such as the Romancecar "Enoshima" limited express overtook them. The site of the removed tracks now holds a paid cycle park and an elevator up to the ticket-gate level.
