History
Minami-Nagayama Station opened on 1 November 1986 as Japanese National Railways' Minami-Nagayama temporary stop on the Sekihoku Main Line between Shin-Asahikawa and Higashi-Asahikawa stations. It was an unstaffed, passenger-only stop whose provisional working name before opening had been "Toyonaga." JR Hokkaido took it over at the 1987 privatization and division of Japanese National Railways, at which point it was also upgraded to a regular station. In the timetable revision of 16 March 2019, downbound trains of the special rapid "Kitami" service (now the rapid "Kitami" service) began stopping there to compensate for reduced local-train service. It is now a ground-level station with a station building on a single platform serving one track, an unstaffed station managed by Asahikawa Station, with no ticket vending machines or restrooms.
