History
Minami-Ishii Station opened on 1 August 1957 as a petition station built at local expense. From its opening it was an unstaffed station handling only diesel-railcar passenger traffic. It became a station on JR East's Suigun Line at the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987. Located at Shimo-Ishii, Yamatsuri, Higashishirakawa District, Fukushima Prefecture, it is a ground-level station with a single platform serving one track; there is no station building, only a waiting room on the platform. It is an unstaffed station managed by the Suigun Line Control Center (at Hitachi-Daigo Station).
Notes
A petition station built at local expense, it began operation under the unusual arrangement of being unstaffed with only diesel railcars stopping there from the very start.
