History
Minami-Ishige Station opened on 5 November 1931 as a station of the Jōsō Railway. It is located at Ōbusa, Jōsō, Ibaraki Prefecture, in the southern part of the former town of Ishige. It became a station of the Jōsō Tsukuba Railway through a merger with the (first) Tsukuba Railway on 30 March 1945, and a station of the Kantō Railway through a merger with the Kashima Sangū Railway on 1 June 1965. The PASMO IC card became usable there on 14 March 2009. It is a ground-level, unstaffed station with a single side platform serving one track. There is no station building; a vending machine is installed with its back to the waiting room. A simplified PASMO gate (supporting auto-charge) is installed. The area around the station is a mix of housing and farmland, and Ibaraki Prefectural Ishige Shihō High School is nearby.
