History

Minami-Horibata Station is a stop on the Iyotetsu Jōnan Line and Hanazono Line in Minami-Horibatachō, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with stop number 02. It opened in 1911 as a station of the Matsuyama Electric Tramway. It was rebuilt with a Y-shaped junction in 1953, and that junction came into full use with the start of city tram route 5 operations in 1963. Since route 6 was changed to run to and from Matsuyama City Station, this has become the only stop used by every route of the city tram (Matsuyama City Line).

Notes

At Minami-Horibata Station, the Hanazono Line toward Matsuyama City Station branches off from the Jōnan Line, and the trackage allows through running in any of the directions Matsuyamashi–Nishi-Horibata, Matsuyamashi–Shiyakusho-mae, and Nishi-Horibata–Shiyakusho-mae. There are three platform "islands," one for each arriving direction, each equipped with a safety zone. The points at each island are switched by a trolley contactor operated as the train approaches.
