History

Mimasaka-Takio Station is a station on the JR West Inbi Line located in Horisaka, Tsuyama, Okayama Prefecture, opened on 15 March 1928 with the completion of the Ministry of Railways' Inbi South Line between Mimasaka-Kamo, Higashi-Tsuyama, and Tsuyama. The station's name derives from Takio Village, the municipality where it was then located, but because a station of the same name, Takio Station, already existed in Ōita Prefecture in Kyūshū, it was named with the old provincial name "Mimasaka" prefixed, in accordance with the rules. Takio Village was incorporated into Tsuyama on 1 July 1954; the station became a contracted-operation station on 1 April 1963, and freight and parcel handling was discontinued and the station made unstaffed on 1 October 1970. It became a JR West station with the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987.

Notes

The single-story wooden station building, built before the war, was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property in November 2008, and was also used as the station where Tora-san disembarks at the opening of the 1995 film Otoko wa Tsurai yo: Torajirō Kurenai no Hana.
