History

Mimasaka-Doi Station is a station on the West Japan Railway Company (JR West) Kishin Line in Doi, Mimasaka, Okayama Prefecture. It was established on 8 April 1936 with the Railway Ministry's Himezu Line extension between Sayō and Mimasaka-Emi. On 10 October of the same year the Himezu Line became part of the Kishin Line, and this station came under it. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1963, parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984, and the station became a simple-entrustment station on 31 March of that year. It became a JR West station at the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987. Damage from Typhoon No. 9 on 10 August 2009 severed the section around this station, requiring a bus substitution, but service resumed between Sayō, this station, and Mimasaka-Emi on 5 October of that year.

Notes

On the east side of the station, three former railway staff residences survive — one two-unit row house and two detached houses — and near the station the West Sōmon Gate, one of the gates the Edo shogunate built at either end of the Doi post-station (one of the Seven Mimasaka Stations on the Izumo Kaidō), has been reconstructed as of 2001 after being dismantled during the Meiji era.
