History

Mikkabi Station opened as a terminus on 1 December 1936 on the Ministry of Railways' Futamata-nishi Line (later the Futamata Line). It became a through-station on 1 April 1938 when the Futamata-nishi Line was extended between this station and Kanasashi Station. Freight handling ended on 1 June 1970 and parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. It became a Tenryū Hamanako Railway station on 15 March 1987, when the Futamata Line was transferred to third-sector operation, and its station building was registered as a national Tangible Cultural Property on 26 January 2011. It is a contracted-staff station with one side platform and one island platform serving three tracks in total, and rental bicycles are also available.

Notes

The station building is a nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property; during filming of a Coca-Cola commercial for Keisuke Kuwata's song "Shiroi Koibito-tachi," a set roof was fitted onto the building for use in the shoot.
