History

Mikekado Station was established by Japanese National Railways on 11 February 1956 at Ōaza Mikekado, Buzen, Fukuoka Prefecture. The construction cost of 5,693,000 yen was borne by Buzen City, and the station building at opening was a wooden, mortar-finished structure with a single platform serving one track. Passing facilities were installed on 1 October 1961, expanding it to one platform with two tracks; the section between Unoshima Station and this station was double-tracked on 19 September 1969, and the section from this station to the 49.94 km point measured from Kokura Station was double-tracked on 25 June 1970. Parcel handling was discontinued and the station became unstaffed on 1 October of that year, and Kyushu Railway Company took over at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station building was renovated on 17 December 2006, adding a fire brigade storehouse and standby room, and the "SUGOCA" IC card became usable on 1 March 2009.

Notes

A statue of the local specialty "Mikekado pumpkin" stands in the station plaza, and the office portion of the main station building has now been repurposed by the community as a parking-lot management office and fire brigade storehouse.
