History
Mikawa Station opened on 1 April 1898 with the Hokuriku Line's extension from Komatsu to Kanazawa, becoming a Hokuriku Main Line station after the 1909 line-name reform. Freight handling ended on 20 November 1981 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. The station passed to JR West at the 1987 JNR privatisation. Reconstruction of the station building began in May 1994, and the second-generation, bridge-over-track building opened on 15 March 1995; the adjoining community plaza and station square were completed on 4 June that year. ICOCA service began on 15 April 2017, the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 30 June 2022, and on 16 March 2024 the station transferred to the IR Ishikawa Railway when the Hokuriku Shinkansen reached Tsuruga.
Notes
Mikawa's bridge-over-track station building, opened in 1995, incorporates a free passageway and an adjoining community plaza, and its second-floor concourse houses the Mikawa 37 Cafe.
