History

Mikawa Station opened on 16 February 1897 on the Hokkaido Colliery & Railway between Oiwake and Yuni, after settlers from Aichi Prefecture's old Mikawa Province petitioned for a stop on the new line. The station was nationalised on 1 October 1906 and folded into the Muroran Main Line when route names were standardised in 1909. Freight handling ended in 1972, parcel service in 1980, and the building was rebuilt in 1982. Following the 1987 JNR breakup it passed to JR Hokkaido and is today an unattended Oiwake-managed stop where the line transitions between double and single track.

Notes

The line is double-tracked between Mareppu Station and this station and single-tracked from this station toward Iwamizawa; the station sits at the boundary between the double-track and single-track sections of the Muroran Main Line and is a passing station where trains can cross.
