History

Mikage Station opened on 16 July 1920 with the inaugural section of the Hanshin Kyūkō Electric Railway Kobe Line. A short pocket track to the west of the station was completed in 1968 to support through-running with Sanyo Electric Railway trains between Sannomiya and Rokkō, an arrangement that ran until 14 February 1998; the track was afterwards used by out-of-service trains forwarding extra peak-hour cars, a practice that continued until December 2022. The Great Hanshin earthquake of 17 January 1995 damaged the station and the line's restoration took some seven months. An underpass west of the station was completed on 29 February 2008, when the municipal Yumiba Line road was extended beneath the tracks and a new plaza was laid out on the north side; that north plaza was finished in March 2014, when the north ticket gate was relocated. Station numbering HK-12 was introduced on 21 December 2013.
