History

Mega Station was set up on 30 October 1962 as the Japanese National Railways' Mega signal station in Yuza, Akumi District, Yamagata Prefecture. It was upgraded to a station with the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987, opening as Mega Station on the JR East Uetsu Main Line. On 1 April 2010 the supervising station changed from Kisakata Station to Ugo-Honjō Station. In 2015 there was also an incident in which an early-morning local train mistakenly passed through without stopping. The current station building came into use in March 2016. It is a small station where only six trains a day stop, with all others passing through.

Notes

Mega is the northernmost passenger station in Yamagata Prefecture, and only six scheduled local trains stop there each day; all other Uetsu Main Line services pass through.
