History
Matsunobamba Station opened on 15 May 1927, when the Biwako Tetsudō Kisen line opened between the since-closed Yamagami Station (山上) and Matsunobamba; the line was extended on to Sakamoto (now Sakamoto-Hieizanguchi) on 13 August of the same year, leaving Matsunobamba an intermediate stop. A corporate merger on 11 April 1929 made it a stop on Keihan Electric Railway's Ishiyama Sakamoto Line, and the wartime merger of 1 October 1943 placed it under Keihanshin Kyūkō (the predecessor of Hankyū). The Anō–Sakamoto section, including this stop, was single-tracked for metal salvage on 31 March 1945, and the station was suspended from 15 May 1945 until 10 September 1946. It returned to Keihan when the companies separated on 1 December 1949. A new boarding area came into use on 2 August 1997, and when the Anō–Sakamoto section was double-tracked again on 30 September that year the stop's single side platform was replaced by two opposed side platforms.
