History
Maeyachi Station is a junction stop in the city of Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, operated by JR East. The station opened on 28 October 1912 and today serves both the Ishinomaki Line and the Kesennuma Line, marking the southern terminus of the latter. The Yanaizu Line began operations from the station in 1968 and was extended to Motoyoshi to become the Kesennuma Line in 1977. The station was absorbed into JR East at the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987. Since the March 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, Kesennuma Line services beyond Yanaizu have been replaced by a provisional bus rapid transit line, which also operates from this station.
Notes
A train was derailed at the station on 26 July 2003 by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake.
