History

Kururi Station opened on 28 December 1912 as the terminus of the Chiba Prefectural Railway's Kururi Line, in Kururi-ichiba, Kimitsu, Chiba Prefecture. It was nationalized and transferred to the Ministry of Railways on 1 September 1923, and the section from this station to Kazusa-Kameyama opened on 25 March 1936. That section was suspended on 16 December 1944 and resumed service on 1 April 1947. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1976 and parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984, and the station became a station of East Japan Railway Company (JR East) at the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. It was incorporated into the Tokyo metropolitan area fare zone on 14 March 2009, and its Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 14 December 2017. With the planned abolition of the section between this station and Kazusa-Kameyama on 1 April 2027, this station is scheduled to become the terminus of the Kururi Line.
