History
Kuroyama Station opened on 11 February 1957 as an unstaffed passenger station; at the time the platform was only long enough for four cars. On 1 October 1970 the Niigata Rinkai Railway line opened with this station as its starting point, and in the National Railways' privatization and division of April 1987 the station became a JR East station while interchange freight service between JR Freight and the Niigata Rinkai Railway also began. The entire Niigata Rinkai Railway line was abolished on 1 October 2002, and the station opened as a JR Freight station on the same day. Use of the Suica IC card became possible on 21 January 2006, and a siding on the north side of the platform, used to transport railway rolling stock built by Niigata Transys via the Niigata Higashiko dedicated line, remains in place.
Notes
The Niigata Higashiko dedicated line branching from this station is still used for JR Freight's occasional wagonload freight service, to transfer newly built rolling stock manufactured by Niigata Transys onto JR Freight's kō-shu transport trains.
