History
Kurashiki-shi Station, on the Mizushima Main Line, traces its origin to a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries works railway opened in July 1943 as "Kurashiki Station." It began carrying passengers on 20 August 1948 under the name Sha-Kurashiki Station, and was taken over by the Kurashiki City Transport Bureau on 1 April 1952. On 1 April 1970 the facilities passed to the Mizushima Rinkai Railway, and the station is said to have been renamed to its present form around the same time. It moved to its current site, adjacent to JR West's Kurashiki Station, on 7 April 1981. It is the only station on the Mizushima Main Line staffed throughout the day.
Notes
The station shares walking-level access with JR Kurashiki Station via a covered pedestrian deck, but the two operators keep their ticket gates and station buildings entirely independent.
