History
Kugahara Station opened on 20 June 1960 as a stop on the Japanese National Railways' Kihara Line in mountainous Ōtaki, Chiba. It passed briefly to JR East with privatisation on 1 April 1987 before the Kihara Line was transferred on 24 March 1988 to the third-sector Isumi Railway. From 1 July 2009 the nearby Saniku Gakuin College purchased naming rights and the station has since been signed as "Saniku Gakuin Kugahara"; the original contract period ran only to the end of March 2012, but the naming has remained in place since. The unstaffed single-platform station sits 20.8 km from Ōhara.
Notes
Since 2009 the station signage has carried "Saniku Gakuin College Kugahara" under a naming-rights deal whose original contract period ended in March 2012 but which has remained in place since.
