History
Kōzenji Station opened on 15 December 1910 on the Keihan Main Line, between today's Kōrien and Hirakata-kōen. The tracks on either side of the station originally ran in city streets but were relocated onto private right-of-way in July 1931. The Imperial Japanese Army's Kinya magazine explosion of 1 March 1939 damaged the line, suspending service here until 6 March. Following the 1943 merger Kōzenji belonged to Keihanshin Express, returning to Keihan Electric Railway on 1 December 1949. The current overhead station building opened on 29 November 1998, and its platforms are due to be relocated onto an elevated alignment by 2028.
Notes
Although both neighbouring stops are express stations, Kōzenji's weekday passenger numbers — boardings and alightings combined — exceed those at Hirakata-kōen because multiple high schools cluster around the station.
