History

Koori Station opened on 15 December 1887 on what is now the Tōhoku Main Line, making it the earliest-opened station in Fukushima Prefecture's Date District. The station, in the town of Koori, lost freight handling on 10 September 1978 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. It joined JR East at the breakup of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 and accepted Suica from 14 March 2009. The station now has two side platforms in service; the middle track, formerly the inner face of an island platform, has been converted into a maintenance side track and fenced off from the platform. The wooden station building remains in use, the station being managed from Fukushima and operated under contract by JR East Tōhoku Total Services.

Notes

The station's middle track was formerly a working third track served by an island platform; it has since been converted into a maintenance-of-way side track, and the platform face is now fenced off.
